To Honor
the Wood
is to Form a Memory.
When Laura begins work on a piece, she must first find the tree’s natural history in order to allow her creativity – and the tree’s story – to unfold. Some of the wood has even been monitored at the National Museum in Copenhagen, using dendrochronology, or tree ring dating, which tells Laura the age and the approximate location where the tree grew.
And no wood is too special – sourced by Laura herself from all over the world – walnut wood from Grenoble, 6000 year-old bog oak, yew, or pear tree. Wood with an interesting grain, pattern, and story are potentially a new piece of furniture to the designer.
Unfolding
History.
Exquisitely
Detailed.
In Laura Bergsøe’s dreamlike creations, precious metals, such as liquid silver and bronze, gems, natural stones or amber, are delicately inserted into the tabletops. Each table holds unique elements that celebrate nature’s gifts. One can gaze upon a table and see new forms and twisting details every time.
Her works reference both Art Nouveau in ornamental naturalism, and Art Deco through their exquisite materials and techniques.
The Signature Spike
Each table is unique and holds a Signature Spike, a pure silver spike, placed into the side of the piece which can be removed to reveal its history.
The spike bears artist details, date, materials used, and for whom the table is made. The Signature Spike signifies that each table’s origin is unique, and can be passed down for generations.
